I am delighted to once again be teaching a 5-week course in travel writing for Main Line School Night. Sessions will be from 6:45 to 8:15 pm on Tuesday evenings at Lower Merion High School, from October 7 through November 4. Registration is now open.

The focus of this course is writing about personal travel experiences. To that end, participants will be offered varied travel narrative readings as models. Each class session will include writing prompts, and students will be given assignments each week. These are short assignments, aimed at adding layers of knowledge and insight to each travel narrative.

We’ll look at different structures for travel essays. We’ll also consider strategies for publication (both online and in print), although students who are interested in writing just for themselves or to share with family and friends are welcome in this class. Participants will have opportunities to share drafts and get feedback on a work-in-progress after the course ends.
