Archive for December, 2019

One of my favorite moments of 2019 is captured in my flash essay “Shall We Dance?”, published by The RavensPerch. Read it, share it, and if you like it, please give it 5 stars! https://www.theravensperch.com/shall-we-dance-by-eileen-cunniffe/

I am honored to have my essay “Somebody Almost” included in the gorgeous Winter 2019 issue of Still Point Arts Quarterly, from Shanti Arts. The theme is “Phenomenal Woman,” and the issue is full of thoughtful writing and beautiful artwork. Read (and download) the digital issue, with bonus links to related material, here: https://indd.adobe.com/view/7189e649-bd0f-4c58-b312-b66ab8121b9a; order a print copy here: https://www.shantiarts.co/SPAQ/SPAQ36/WIN19_PURCHASE.html.

Watch this space: “The Sound of a Flinch” will be in the “Neighbors” themed anthology in the works from Crack the Spine

I am thrilled to have my essay “Stitches in Nine” included in the new anthology from Books by Hippocampus, Air: A Radio Anthology, edited by Donna Tallarico. Launch date: March 27, 2019. My story is about listening to baseball with my grandfather, so it’s perfect that the book launch coincides with the opening of the 2019 baseball season, which promises to be a special one for my Phillies! The book is available here: https://books.hippocampusmagazine.com/product/air-a-radio-anthology/.

“The Writing on the Wall” has been published by The RavensPerch. This is the first piece I’ve written about saying goodbye to my childhood home, but it won’t be the last one, I’m sure. Read it (and rate it and share it, please) here: https://www.theravensperch.com/the-writing-on-the-wall-by-eileen-cunniffe/ .

“The Granny, the Grocer and the Cobbler” has been published as a featured essay in bioStories. This one is a labor of love, and it went through several revisions before I realized what (who) it really was about. This essay is now archived in Volume 8, Issue 1 of bioStories, from 2018: http://biostories.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Volume-8-Issue-1-2018.pdf

“When the Bough” appears in Emrys Journal Online, published via Medium. Read this lyric essay—a “man (actually, woman) versus nature” reflection—here: https://medium.com/emrys-journal-online/when-the-bough-3098da75666.

“Special Delivery” appears in the fall 2018 issue of Door Is a Jar. To read this essay, order the journal or the electronic download here: https://www.amazon.com/DOOR-JAR-Issue-Literary-Magazine/dp/1726147622/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr= .

“Not Too Much to Ask” has been published by The Voices Project. This micro-essay may be found here: http://www.thevoicesproject.org/poetry-library  (Or search for it using the publication date of August 14, 2018.)

“Independence Day” has been republished by Wanderlust Journal: A Narrative Map. It is almost 20 years since this memorable travel experience, part of my graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Read the essay here: https://wanderlust-journal.com/2018/05/17/by-eileen-m-cunniff/.

“Spring Feast” has been published in an online themed issue of Hedge Apple, “Flash in the Pan,” all about food. As I post this, the second March Nor’easter in five days is dumping snow all over my screened-in porch, making this year’s opening day feel like a far-off fantasy. Read the essay here: http://hedgeapplemagazine.com/?p=1712, and be sure to sample the other tasty offerings in the issue.

“Sibling Revelry” has been published in the Holiday Issue of Hofstra University’s Windmill. Anyone who knows me well already knows about my amazing family and our funny/strange/unique holiday tradition. I’m especially pleased with this comment from managing editor Keaton Ramjit in his issue overview: “Eileen Cunniffe shows us that not all happy families are alike at Christmas, thus proving Leo Tolstoy wrong.” Read my essay (which won The Project in 2014, one of my rare victories) here: https://hofstrawindmill.com/2017/11/17/holiday-17-sibling-revelry-by-eileen-cunniffe/

“Revision, Like Launching a Marble Boat” appears in the Winter 2017 issue of Subprimal Poetry Art. Read it here: https://subprimal.com/issues/issue10/revision-like-launching-a-marble-boat-by-eileen-cunniffe. (This craft essay was first published as a guest blog post by Superstition Review. )
